Forza just got Long Beach? That has my attention. I would say iRacing already has it but it is only available in wire frame format (the racing surface is fully textured)

I'm not proud to admit that it also has mine. At launch, FM5 seemed repulsive (maybe too strong) to me, but with long beach and the IndyCars it all seems to be coming together.
I just want a console facsimile of the CartFactor mod for rFactor.

iRacing will have the DW12 available around Memorial day. Only problem is they have a complete shortage of street courses due to the hardware requirements to properly render a track with that many objects.

Yes. iRacing has VIR. As far as US road courses I think they have pretty much all of the dedicated road courses in the US that host major events. New Jersey and the one in Illinois are unfinished though.
Next tracks to be added are COTA (out in 2 weeks) Monza, Donnington Park, and Imola.

I'm in the same camp. This is the first time a new generation of consoles has come around where I'm really just not that excited and tempted enough to upgrade any time soon.
Granted, maybe it's because of aging (29 lol) and priorities and hobbies changing, but I hardly play any of the games on any of the systems I have now. GTA V is about all that sees any use, when I play.
I've been a massive Forza fan since the original 9 years ago (although Horizon didn't exactly leave me satisfied), and FM5 looks as stunning as ever (would like more content included, but I understand their unrealistic deadline for a launch release, which severely limited what they could finish in time), but seeing as how it's literally the only game that has my interest on any of the new consoles, I find that difficult to justify the upgrade expense.
I'll most likely just give it another couple years for more content options and wrinkles to be ironed out.
I also hear you about all the "connected" stuff (though maybe we're thinking of slightly different things here). I'm not a fan of any of this "everything in one" gobbledeegook everyone is trying to create in gaming systems these days. An included DVD player is fine, otherwise just give me a gaming system that is JUST THAT.

I hear you, I'm in the same boat. Been addicted to Forza since #2, but FM5 just seems like a cheap cash grab. Hopefully FM6 will take its time and not be such a shitty deal, with the limited tracks and vehicles, and horrrrrible pricing model (i want the damn game, not half a game and a 150 bucks worth of DLC to make it 'good').

I honestly wouldn't even mind if Turn10 just continued to develop for 5 and released content for it over time as they finished it. Granted, I'd hope and want the content to be free, but I feel it's half of "that's an awful lot of time and effort put in for it to be free" and half of "well it should be free because it should have been included in the game in the first place".
Unless the physics system or modeling system needs an overhaul (which is exactly what they've done with 5), I see no reason they should need to be concerned with, and spend all the time, money, research, and effort on FM6 in 2 years or more. Just continue developing for 5; more cars, more tracks, more modding and tuning options/content, and it will continue to feel like a fresh game with no need for a sequel for a quite a long time.
Hell, they've nearly created as many Forzas in the time between just GT4 and GT5/GT6. Turn10, sloooooow down and just put your efforts into the continuing development and polishing of 5.

Think of Spa and what it does to the FPS on most machines. All newer machines are able to run it just fine. Long Beach would be way more system intensive than even Spa. It has to do with both reasons I'm sure, but system requirements is one of them. iRacing hasn't updated their system requirements in 6 years.

it may never happen, too much of the system is built around kinect, for example kinect is what logs users in and determines who is using which controller. Plus they would have to redo the interface for non kinect users.

users can log in without kinect. When you start a game, the console prompts users to log in, and lists the available profiles. In fact, i don't even use it anymore and can use the system just fine without it. Thus your statement about having to use kinect to log in AND your statement about having to redo the interface for non-kinect users are both invalid.
In my opinion, Kinect and its many mind-reading functionalities are for lazy people who like to talk and make gestures.

I've been waiting to see what Turn10 do with Fivetza since it was released. I played it launch weekend at a friend's and they have been steadily making it harder to not have my own XBone.
In the meantime I have been saving towards buying one, and am about half-way there.
I'd still like to see them put an auction house in the game, since cars and parts are so expensive, it would be nice to get some of that investment back once you decide you no longer want a vehicle. And, since there aren't any unicorns anymore, there is zero reason for people to hack the system like they did in Fourtza.
A storefront would also be nice so we can sell our tunes and designs.
Now that they have dropped two additional track-packs on us, and both are real-world locations, I am very curious about their next move. I had the thought a while ago that additional tracks should be real, and that any paid-DLC tracks should be their fake ones. With Maple Valley, Camino Viejo, and Sunset absent at this point, I am especially curious about if they are going to follow my idea and have a track pack to buy that will include their imaginary tracks while the real ones remain free.

the 6 car packs all have 1 new-to-series car, yet we still have to pay for them. Same with the booster car packs from the new track releases. 1 god-dang new car?! I would have preferred that they have released the rehashes as title updates so the DLC would be solely for new cars... but someone told me that would have been a bad business case. After all, the game developer have stated that it takes 6 months and lots of money to scan and program a single car. Releasing all those rehashes for free would have put them out of business.

they cut cars from 4 to 5 for the same reasons they cut cars from 1 to 2: to make the cars of a suitable resolution and quality for the new generation of consoles at the time. FM1 was on original Xbox, FM2 was on Xbox 360. Now, FM4 was on Xbox 360 and now FM5 is on Xbox One. If only the developers weren't so lazy about remaking those awesome FM1 tracks for FM5... :(

if you are referring to the headset mic, i cannot give you an answer as I never used it (i'm hearing impaired, but not totally deaf, so i sort of need to SEE to hear, lol). The kinect mic seems to work OK, though from my limited use trying out the various kinect commands, you do seem to talk a bit louder to get the Kinect to understand your command.
I ended up disconnecting my kinect due to the fact that none of the games I had very much kinect gesture support (like games for the Wii do with the WiiMote, where I wave my coupled fists to swing a bat or sword), and the fact that if someone in my house wanted to watch TV when I wasn't around, would they know how to use it? I don't care about all the other stuff they throw into gaming systems either. My 360 is used solely for games, nothing else whatsoever.
My concerns about being connected were more related to the Kinect/voice monitoring/camera etc stuff they've put into it (I've heard it's "always on", though I haven't done much research because this isn't the main stumbling block between me and a purchase). And although someone else suggested unplugging the console every time, that's just a poor solution. My wiring is always tucked away neatly and I don't want to go digging around to unplug/plug in my system every time I want to use it.

I was referring more to the constant audio monitoring and video monitoring capability, or has that stuff changed? It's not the main issue preventing me from buying (that would be the lack of titles that interest me and the cost to upgrade), so I haven't really read into it very much.

I was only referring to the capability to do so, not that they are necessarily actually using it. My laptop has a camera and mic too, and if there were an option to save 5 bucks and exclude them, I would take it.
